Building on the success of the 2019 conference, Hope for Home and Ardgowan Hospice are hosting another Conference, this time with the focus on enabling people with dementia to die at home.  Due to the constantly changing pandemic environment the Conference will be held virtually but will still include both presentations and workshops so that we can continue to share best practice, learn from each other, and connect around the desire to ensure the very best end of life care for people with dementia dying at home.

 

Speakers comprise a diverse range of experienced practitioners (including the winner of the Hope for Home, Thelma Harvey Award 2019), researchers and people with lived experience and consequently this Conference will have something for everyone.

SUPPORT FOR HOPE FOR HOME FROM THE INNER WHEEL CLUB OF MARGATE, AND MORRISON’S IN MARGATE!

Hope for Home has received fabulous support from the Inner Wheel Club of Margate in 2021. Following a virtual Inner Wheel Club meeting with Sarah Burnard, Trustee of Hope for Home in February 2021, the group committed to fundraising for Hope for Home for the next two years, once Covid restrictions had eased! As a result, we have recently received a hugely generous donation of £600.00, £200.00 of which was raised by the staff at Morrison’s in Margate. This money will go directly to fund our drop-in groups with Age UK Lambeth. Hope for Home is hugely grateful for this support.

HOPE FOR HOME WELCOME FIONA THOMSON!

Hope for Home are delighted to welcome Fiona Thomson to the Board of Trustees. Fiona joined us as a potential new Trustee in January 2021 and is already doing sterling work helping us as a Board to refine our ideas about our work and its impact.

Fiona says: “I work in Operational Management around the country, working in making anything more efficient, from defence to pork pies! I live in Glasgow with a few friends and a few kittens, and, like many others, got very into DIY and indoor plants over lockdown. When the weather allows I like to get out hiking and camping as often as I can. I am especially committed to work with and support Hope for Home because I have a family history of dementia and could see the impact first hand. I am keen to help access to education around the disease and to help people achieve their preferred outcomes for their loved ones."

We remain a small registered charity in terms of our income. Like so many charities during the pandemic, our donations have dropped, as fundraising opportunities closed down. We do need money to continue our valuable work for the group of people we aim to support, for whom, all too frequently there is no provision.

We rely on private donations to keep our work going, on fundraising by our supporters, and on legacies. Our overheads are deliberately kept very low – chiefly comprising our annual accountancy fee and our insurance. We do not pay for office accommodation, and we have no paid staff, all our work is carried out by a small band of very dedicated volunteers.
